Three Wheels United

Three Wheels United have taken on the challenge to improve the lives of the millions of rickshaw drivers that ply the roads of India and other countries. In close co-creation with the auto rickshaw driver communities, TWU developed a profitable business model that will improve the living standard of rickshaw drivers and their families.

The model is based on 3 components:
• Fair loans so that rickshaw drivers can buy their own vehicle
• Additional streams of income, such as advertising
• Clean technology that lowers fuel cost and is less harmful for the environment

Delhi may be considered unsafe for women, but that hasn’t stopped Sunita from taking up as odd a job as an autorickshaw driver.

Thirty two-year-old Sunita, the national capital’s first female driver, transcends all barriers, living and playing by the rules in a profession dominated by men.

“I drive an auto because I enjoy it. People should do what they enjoy,” she said.

Autorickshaw drivers, owners stage protest

Members of the Shimoga Taluk Auto Drivers’ and Owners’ Welfare Association staged a protest here on Wednesday urging the district administration to fulfil their various demands.
The protesters said that the State Government had issued an order to provide Ashraya sites to autorickshaw drivers under the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme.

Auto drivers end strike

The talks between MLA Nehru Olekar and Auto Drivers‘ Association were fruitful enough for the association members to withdraw their strike, here on Thursday. They had been on strike since Monday, demanding the repair of “worst roads” coming under the limits of Haveri municipality.

Rick drivers hold city to ransom

In a city where auto drivers don’t hesitate to hold hapless commuters to ransom on a regular day, the two-day bandh came as a licence to fleece the public openly. From charging three times the regular fare to demanding an extra Rs 100 for running on petrol bought “in black”, auto drivers have been making the most of the tense situation in the city. What’s more, they claim they are doing the public a “service”.

Now, Delhi auto drivers have reasons to be reasonable

They have a reputation of being rude and overcharging passengers but many auto-rickshaw drivers in the capital believe this image will soon fade away as now they have reasons to do away with this habit.
The auto drivers, who generally give a host of excuses for demanding exorbitant fares, now have a sort of financial security as they were enrolled into a new pension scheme — thanks to a city-based NGO NyayaBhumi.
